Acupuncture is a traditional medicine that has been practiced for over 5000 years. Originally from China, this therapy results from the observation of the human body in relation to the nature that surrounds it. Without any chemicals or side effects, acupuncture gently balances the whole body. Through its holistic approach, this alternative medicine harmonizes the body and the mind. It is therefore an excellent resource for chronic conditions. Acupuncture treatments are always customized and designed for adults as well as for children.

Several recent scientific developments have allowed us to understand some of the mechanisms explaining the action of acupuncture. Different points can act through either of the following mechanisms:

Acupuncture Pointe-Claire

Action on the central nervous system (CNS)

Many acupuncture points stimulate specific areas of the brain which allows to have benefits in a large variety of health conditions as stated above.

Action on the endocrine system

Certain points will generate the secretion of different hormones such as endorphins in the treatment of pain.

Action on the muscular system

Other points induce great muscular relaxation via trigger points and muscular knots.

Acupuncture is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and its practice in Quebec is supervised by the Ordre des Acupuncteurs du Québec (OAQ).
